Summary

In response to certain recommendations of the Senate Legal and Constitutional References Committee’s reports

A Sanctuary under Review: An Examination of Australia’s Refugee and Humanitarian Determination Processes
and
Administration and operation of the Migration Act 1958
and the Senate Select Committee report
Ministerial Discretion in Migration Matters
, the bill amends the
Migration Act 1958
to introduce complementary protection arrangements to allow all claims that may engage Australia’s
non-refoulement
obligations to be considered under a single protection visa application process.
